" Tones of steel melt away into the energy and vitality of nature." |
Yolanda Sanchez y de Vera is from Andalusia, she was born in Sevilla (Spain).
In 1977, being only 16, she decided to discover Europe alone. She has ended up living in Brussels where she began sculpture studies. In 1993, she graduated from the Fine Arts Royal Academy of Brussels. Her work is largely inspired by nature’s forms. She has long been working with stone before gaining interest in Corten steel which helps her creating more monumetal sculptures. Light – a center piece of her work – is often reflected through resin insertions. H (Hubert Roland) is from Belgium and is a self-taught man. He is living with Yolanda and he is helping her in her work since 1992. In 2007, they decided to work together on a call for integration project in a public building subsidized by the French Community of Belgium. They got this first public order together, and this was also the beginning of a new artistic adventure to which H has decided to fully commit himself. This is the beginning of a more conceptual and more committed new circle. Together, they are questioning our ability to « see », to approach our universe beyond the frontiers set up by our dogmatic societies thoughts. EN: What is our place in an anarchically developing mankind that upsets the balances of the world? Man is losing contact with the elements and forces around him. His conscience about what connects him to these has highly become blunted up to the point of weakening every ecosystem. What is our way of thinking really worth? Is it favourable for us? Or is it on the contrary driving us further apart from this conscience that is so essential to the natural balance of our world; at the risk of causing our downfall and taking with us a large part of the human, animal and plant world. We are not trying to convince others about stakes threatening us. The work in our studio is the result of a research which allows us to sharpen our conscience. Amnesia is not general. Yet, some people act following their own way. We contemplate our action in the public area as an opportunity to broaden the influence of all people looking for more balance between man and nature.
